Sherry works from our Morningside practice on Mondays.
I have a Master’s Degree in Education from Deakin University along with a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Southern Queensland. I have previous experience working as an Educator and hold a depth of knowledge having previously worked with young people as a guidance officer/psychologist.
When I am not at work, I enjoy pilates, walking & spending time with my 3 sons and 2 dogs. I also enjoy volunteering for the Navy Cadets or exploring magnificent waterways jet skiing with friends.
I believe that self-understanding is the beginning of all wisdom. My approach to our sessions will be warm, engaging and thoughtful. My holistic approach encompasses the physical, emotional, social and spiritual well-being of my clients. I will encourage you to build integrity, self-confidence and courage as you learn to understand yourself and others.
I integrate various evidence-based therapy techniques into our sessions including:
Gemma Smith is a Master’s qualified Accredited Social Worker and mother of two who has a passion for working with people through transitional life stages.
Gemma’s relaxed interpersonal style and high value for humour is something you will find her utilising in professional practice as well as in her work as an active podcaster, public speaker and group facilitator on perinatal mental health. Gemma’s passion for reducing shame through the sharing of stories reflects her desire for you to feel comfortable bringing your true, authentic self to your sessions together.
Gemma works with perinatal clients, teens/ pre-teens, young adults, adults and clients in mid- life.
Gemma works on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Morningside.
As a teenager I was helped immensely through some tricky times by youth workers and counsellors available in my home town. Despite working in a variety of national and international social work settings, since having my two young children I have developed a particular passion for supporting other parents through the often-polarising transition to parenthood and have been doing so in private practice since 2021.
When you work with me, you'll be guided through considering your personal challenges from multiple perspectives, accounting for important aspects of your life such as your: values, goals, personal history, culture, physical environment, identity, somatics and social networks. Using the socio-ecological lens, we work together with a person-centred, narrative approach to find actionable solutions for your challenges and positive feelings about the future.
Michelle Reynolds is our Counsellor who has completed a Master of Counselling from Queensland University of Technology. Michelle works in the perinatal space with clients going through fertility loss/ grief, joys and challenges of becoming new parents or needing assistance in family conflicts. She also works with teenagers and adults helping them navigate through the challenging years of ‘teenhood’ or adjusting to situational stressors as well as for a wide range of disorders.
Michelle works on Wednesday afternoon & evening and Thursdays at Morningside.
My Background
After obtaining my Masters degree and working with a not-for-profit organisation providing support around unplanned pregnancies sparked my passion for perinatal work. I have over 10 years of experience working in the perinatal field and I have worked with perinatal clients from all walks of life needing support with post-abortion guilt, family planning, fertility issues or pregnancy trauma.
I am skilled in working with people from multicultural backgrounds, the LGBTQIA+ community as well as neurodiverse clients. I also hold knowledge from having worked with clients with complex trauma and history of violence.
I have a 13-year-old transgender son and we are on our own journey through this transition. I am a cat person (with three cats) and love to socialise with friends. Once a year I thoroughly enjoy the spectacle that is Eurovision.
My Clinical Approach
I believe that every individual has the capability and resources to achieve the goals that they identify. My aim is to help people discover their strengths and create their preferred future. I am a Solution Focused and Narrative Therapist, which usually involves a goal-focused therapeutic approach. My approach with the influence of my training in solution-focussed therapy, helps me go through the sessions with my clients using positive principles to help client achieve solutions, instead of focusing on the problem. I also believe that the influence of art or music based activities alongside mindfulness can be beneficial additions to one’s therapeutic journey, which I try to include in my overall approach.
Tasneem (Taz) Fataar has a Bachelor of Social Work for Griffith University and is currently working to complete Medicare Accreditation and become an accredited Mental Health Social Worker.
Taz works with toddlers, children, adolescents, young adults, adults and older individuals.
Tax works Wednesday evenings and Saturdays from Morningside.
After obtaining my Bachelor of Social Work, I went on to explore social work practice opportunities in different settings. I have previously been a community development worker within a Refugee and Asylum seeker community hub, homelessness support worker, mental health intake officer, mental health counsellor, child protection officer, group psycho-education facilitator and principal wellbeing advisor. I enjoy working with people from all different walks of life, across all ages and cultures. I place high importance on attending varying needs in all domains to ensure a holistic and individualised approach is used to improve quality of life.
I enjoy being able to understand and connect with the experiences, emotions and challenges of my clients. I believe in assessing each clients' needs and working together to develop an personalised plan that will work best for them as an individual, while being able to adapt and adjust treatment plans and my approach as needed. I am passionate about creating a safe and supportive space for clients to share their experiences and providing support that is non-judgemental and non-stigmatising.
I employ evidence-based therapeutic modalities in counselling and use Focused Psychological Strategies such as:
Jo Butler is a registered psychologist who is completing her Health Psychology Registrar Program. She works with Adolescents, Adults and Perinatal clients.
Jo is working on Mondays through Thursdays at Morningside.
I obtained my Masters in Health Psychology in Adelaide and have recently moved back to Brisbane to be closer to family. I have worked with clients from a range of backgrounds, and enjoy working with mothers, young adults, LGBTQIA+ folks and neuro-divergent people. I have experience working with SA health, in rural schools, and at NGOs providing therapy in disadvantaged regions. I have seen the positive impact that psychology can have on someone's life and strive to work with you to achieve this in your own life.
In my spare time, I love to enjoy the company of my family and friends. I particularly enjoy spending time playing games, listening to podcasts and audiobooks and getting out in the nature.
I am passionate about helping my clients to achieve their goals and work in the intersection of physical and mental health. I have a down to earth approach to therapy and work to meet clients where they are, to achieve their goals. I believe that there is no one size fits all approach to therapy and enjoy the process of tailoring my approach to suit your individual journey.
I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing. I love getting to learn and explore new areas alongside my clients. I work from a neurodiverse affirming perspective and my therapy room is a safe space regardless of gender or sexual identity. I can help with a variety of concerns, including anxiety and stress management, adjustment issues, perinatal clients, parenting challenges, chronic physical health concerns, medical trauma, neurodiversity and LGBTQIA+ clients.
Dr. Rachel Bushing is a Clinical Psychologist and she works with children, teenagers, and families. She is passionate about bringing out the good in people and she likes to bring fun and creativity into the therapy setting. I am a mum to 3 early-waking children, and being mum to them has been my greatest education! I have been a psychologist for 20 years and in that time I have worked in mental health and counselling services in Australia and the United Kingdom, across government, NGO and private practice settings.
My foundational psychology training (Bachelors, Honours, Masters) was with the University of Queensland. Since then I have been continuing to learn and grow, picking up several therapy approaches and a bunch of techniques along the way. My job is to make all that "book knowledge" fit with what you're experiencing. Most importantly, I want to find a way to make therapy individualised so that it works for you.
It is really important to me that you feel comfortable and at home in our space, and that is the atmosphere we try to create in our practice. As a Clinical Psychologist, I have additional training in the field of mental health diagnoses, and constructing individualised treatment plans based on wholistic needs. I can take whatever you throw at me!
I use the following evidence-based therapies:
