MEET YOUR CLINICIAN

Samuel Song Psychologist

My Background

I am a registered Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), having completed a Master of Psychology (Counselling). I found my love for psychology when I was studying my architecture degree, where I learnt that a good building is made from knowing the lived experiences of the people who will live in it. Since then, I have had a great passion for working together with my clients to explore their inner experiences and finding the tools that may help them live more closely in line with what matters to them.

My earliest clinical experience was as a volunteer counsellor, helping people manage their substance use, as well as supporting their families and significant others. I have experience working with a diverse range of adults, as well as students in schools and university. Learning is a never-ending adventure, and I am always striving to develop my clinical skills and incorporate the feedback from the people I work with.

In my spare time, I enjoy listening to and caring for my lovely pet budgies. I have a passion for cooking something delicious and enjoy going for a good walk.

My Clinical Approach

I strive to create a safe and warm environment where my clients can explore their own experiences at your own pace and feel empowered to make lasting changes. I place a strong emphasis on self-compassion, emotional awareness, and practising skills for living a meaningful life. I am passionate about understanding the uniqueness of my clients and how I can tailor our approach to best suit your needs and goals. It is deeply rewarding for me to help people utilise their personal strengths to cope with the unexpected challenges of life.

I have a strong interest in supporting people experiencing depression and anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, chronic pain, health conditions, and physical disability. I am also passionate about providing inclusive and affirming care for people in the LGBTIQA+ and neurodiverse community, and I am always keen to learn from their colourful experiences.

My clinical approach is grounded in evidence-based practice and theory, drawing from a range of therapeutic modalities, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
  • Mindfulness-based approaches
  • Schema Therapy
